The Healing Garden, nestled within the courtyard of the UC Emergency Department, serves as a sanctuary within the medical space. Its purpose is twofold: to offer a respite from the clinical environment and to infuse a touch of nature into the everyday.
Key Features: The design, meticulously crafted by REALM in close collaboration with the project team, ensures that healthcare professionals can steal a moment of solace amidst their demanding routines. With windows on three sides, the garden bathes patients, staff, and visitors in natural light, creating a soothing ambiance. The garden’s aesthetics transport visitors beyond the hospital walls, allowing them to momentarily escape to the wilder landscapes of Cincinnati.
Healing Spaces: A stark departure from the sterile hospital interior, the Healing Garden presents an abstract representation of the Cincinnati landscape. Representation of hills, valleys, and the softness of a river’s edge intertwine harmoniously within the space. The addition of soundscapes, shifting light patterns, varying textures, and seasonal changes contribute to the garden’s respite-like qualities.
In essence, the Healing Garden is a canvas where nature is proudly on display, offering solace, rejuvenation, and a momentary escape from the clinical world.
